Notes from the producer Marina Hurley...
There is a huge range of talented musicians and singers that perform at Australia's acoustic and folk music festivals that love Joni Mitchell, but most are themselves songwriters and therefore do not record a lot of covers. festival folk sing Joni Mitchell started in 2006 when I ran a concert at the National Folk Festival to celebrate the songs and influence of Joni Mitchell. It was such a brilliant show that I asked these singers (and more) to put their Joni songs on this CD. The energy and creativity that has gone into this project is amazing. Almost every song has a unique arrangement that celebrates Joni’s complex style and the choice of songs strongly reflect her talents as a songwriter.
A special thank you to Steve Vella for his engineering expertise that helped steer this project through to its conclusion; Liz Frencham, Kat Kraus and Martin Pearson for support and advice; Martin Pearson and Ramona Tilley for CD design; and Andrew Pattison and Dave O’Neill for having faith in this project.

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser. Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this. Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?). With a career spanning 50 years and playing with two of my heroes (French and Cornwell) Thompson has produced a fascinating EP. yellowcakeuf6
