Notes from the producer Andrew Pattison...
festival folk sing Gordon Lightfoot is the fifth compilation of artists celebrating the talents of an influential songwriter, following on from festival folk sing Judy Small (2013), Bob Dylan (2012), Eric Bogle (2011) and Joni Mitchell (2010). Marina Hurley came up with the concept and produced all four of these albums. I put my hand up this time, on behalf of the original baby boomers who witnessed the 1960s’ folk revival and the evolution of the contemporary folk singer-songwriter, to acknowledge the phenomenal talents and productivity of Gordon Lightfoot, and to introduce his music to a later generation.

about

The Last Time I Saw Her (© Warner/Chappell Music Australia Pty Ltd)

℗ 2016 Duncan Chalmers. Duncan Chalmers – guitar & vocals. Recorded by Chloe and Jason Roweth.

Duncan Chalmers still works to live, but he lives to sing. His songs evoke his passion for life, love, nature and humanity. When compelled to write songs they reflect his desire to cheer for the underdog, lift up the down trodden and free the exploited. “The appeal of Gordon Lightfoot is that his songs for the most part are from real events, real people and full of rich imagery. This imagery is distinctive and is one of the characteristics that I find immediately identifies the song as one of Gordon's compositions. The Last Time I Saw Her is a clear example, with the sense of loss he evokes.
